PERFUMES ARE OFTEN DESIGNED TO BE WORN during the day (think light, energetic, citrusy fragrances) or in the evening (cue musky, sensual, heady notes). Louis Vuitton's latest scent, City of Stars, lives somewhere in that lavender magic hour in between.

"At night, when the sun is setting, we feel differently, we smell differently, we perceive things differently," says Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, the brand's master perfumer for the past 10 years. "It's exactly like when you are looking at a painting with a lot of light and then again with less," he says. "Some details become more essential."
