NOT MANY ENJOY THE SAME POSITION—AND POPULARITY—AS MITHILA PALKAR. A MILLENNIAL FAVOURITE, MANY OF MITHILA’S FANS WILL TELL YOU THEY ADORE HER FOR HER ‘CUTENESS’ AND RELATABLE ROLES. THEY’D ALSO BE PLEASED TO KNOW THAT THE 27-YEAR-OLD HATES WASTING TIME (AND HAS BEEN ADDING NEW SKILLS TO HER RESUME IN THE LOCKDOWN). IN THIS INTERVIEW, OUR DIGITAL COVERSTAR SPEAKS ABOUT BEING PART OF THE ‘REVOLUTION’, SPREADING POSITIVITY ON SOCIAL MEDIA, AND WHY SHE’D LOVE TO PLAY A NEGATIVE CHARACTER.

Mithila Palkar: Sitting Pretty!

Mithila Palkar has earned the title of a ‘seasoned player’ in the world of webseries.

And she has only just begun. For a medium that has come into being fairly recently, Mithila might have had the first-mover’s advantage, but there’s more to the Girl In The City star’s popularity (and her 2.4 millions fans on Instagram). Because Mithila is not only evidently talented, she also has a relentless, determined spirit that has helped cement her position...firmly. Looking at her trajectory as an actor, which comprises webseries, Bollywood films (with legends like Irrfan Khan) and regional Marathi cinema, one might think that she has carefully curated her career. But Mithila is quick to point out that “it has all happened very organically”.

As we catch up with the actor, she is giddy with excitement for being able to view the world upside down. Literally! Mithila tells us that she recently tried doing the headstand for the first time “and (almost) nailed it”. “I have been taking virtual classes with my personal trainer and practising yoga since the lockdown began in March.” A restless being by her own admission, Mithila likes to keep herself busy. “It’s hard for me to sit idle. Although, sometimes it’s a good thing! Even my trainer knows that he needs to keep reinventing the wheel to keep me engaged,” she laughs. Another thing that’s keeping her busy these days is Kathak. “I started learning Kathak again after three years. I couldn’t practise it for a while, as the timings didn’t match my shoot schedule. But I have done intense training in the past, taken exams, too, and I realised that the lockdown is the perfect opportunity to get back to it.”
