Samantha Morton is a woman forced into desperate measures to pay back a loan shark

After her stint on The Walking Dead, scaring us silly as the villainous Alpha, Samantha Morton is back on our screens this week in the second instalment of C4’s hard-hitting drama trilogy I Am…
The 42-year-old joins forces with director Dominic Savage to play the title role in the haunting I Am Kirsty, which they created together. Morton plays loving mum Kirsty who discovers her gambling-addicted partner Steve has suddenly upped and left her deeply in debt.
Struggling to feed her daughters, hotel cleaner Kirsty reluctantly borrows money from Ryan (Paul Kaye), a sympathetic dad who befriends her at the school gates. Things turn ugly, however, when Ryan reveals himself to be a predatory and unpredictable loan shark, who threatens Kirsty’s family.
As Kirsty runs out of financial options, she contemplates sex work in order to survive.
Here, Morton reveals more about the harrowing role…
Can you set the scene for Kirsty’s story?
