With quality dramas like Secret City and Picnic at Hanging Rock, there’s a lot more to Australian TV these days than Home and Away and Neighbours.

Now, there’s another first-rate thriller arriving on our screens from Down Under – supernatural crime drama Tidelands, the first Aussie show to be made by Netflix.

The eight–part series follows former criminal Cal McTeer (Charlotte Best) who returns to her coastal hometown of Orphelin Bay, a small fishing village, following a spell in prison.

As she returns, the body of a local fisherman is washed ashore, shining a light on the clandestine smuggling business that is one of the town’s most closely guarded secrets.
