Paul O’Grady on his risky trip to help look after stray dogs in India

Saving The Slumdogs

For his latest documentary series about canines, Paul O’Grady travels to Delhi in India to work alongside volunteers at Friendicoes rescue shelter for stray city dogs.

We caught up with the 62-year-old animal-lover to find out more…

Was Delhi a tough place to film?

It’s a marvellous place, India, but Delhi was a shock. On our way to work every morning we passed about 60 kids and families living in rubble. We used to order everything on the hotel breakfast menu and strip the mini bar of bottles of water and Coke and take it all to them. You’ve got all these starving kids and all these starving dogs, and then you’ve got this great wealth. It’s heartbreaking!

What can you tell us about Friendicoes rescue
