Eight celebrities embark on an ancient pilgrimage from the Alps to the Vatican

Last year’s BBC2 travelogue Pilgrimage: The Road to Santiago was an unexpected delight as it followed a group of celebrities walking the famous medieval route, the Camino de Santiago.

Now, another band of intrepid travellers embark on a pilgrimage as eight famous faces set off on the gruelling 1,000km Via Francigena route, from the Swiss Alps to St Peter’s Square in Rome.

Among those braving blisters in the three-part series are Strictly star Brendan Cole, comedians Stephen K Amos and Katy Brand, singer Dana, and Les Dennis.
