More than half of all prisoners in the US will re-offend on their release, but a groundbreaking programme has now been launched at a jail in California that could help to reduce that figure by rehabilitating the most anti-social and dangerous individuals.

There, an entire wing has been transformed into a kennel club, full of trained service dogs. Armed robbers and murderers are each given responsibility for a dog.
