It’s Lord of the Flies meets 13 Reasons Why in a gripping drama

Home Alone

After the success of hard-hitting high-school drama 13 Reasons Why, Netflix turns to the world of troubled teens again this week with new series The Society.

The promising 10-parter follows a group of American youngsters who are mysteriously transported to an alternate version of their New England town, where everything is identical except for the fact that there’s no trace of their parents.

As the group become increasingly disturbed by their bizarre situation, chaos and violence breaks out. Trying to figure out what has happened and how to get home, they form friendships and alliances in order to survive.

According to showrunner Chris Keyser, the series is a modern take on William Golding’s classic novel Lord of the Flies – but with a twist. ‘Unlike most versions of Lord of the Flies, which are set in some form of wilderness, The Society takes place right in the heart of civilisation,’ he explains.
