Literary Awards - An Ode To The Literary World!

A Storizen Exclusive Feature

According to general thought, Literature, in its broadest sense, is any written work. Etymologically, the term derives from Latin literature/literature, writing formed with letters. Literature can be classified according to whether it is fiction or non-fiction and whether it is poetry or prose. It can be further distinguished according to primary forms such as the novel, short story or drama.

Works are often categorized according to historical periods or their adherence to certain aesthetic features or expectations (genre). If we go by this definition and take only into account the written works, we have to go back centuries where the Kings had their own literary circles and people. It is a broad classification that cannot be easily deduced to few lines but to bring back the memory lines that everyone must have had learned in their school times, Tenali Ramakrishna, one of the greatest yet wittiest poets from the Vijayanagara Empire of Sri Krishnadevaraya, was a great contributor to the Indian ( South Indian) Literature.

Coming to the Gupta Dynasty, during the reign of Samudragupta I & II, many poets created beautiful literary works that define our culture. There are numerous folklore tales where many stories emerged from the then lifestyles that are written and preserved. These sample examples explain the existence and importance of the theory of Literature.
