Tell-Tale Signs On Your First Date That He's Not For You

|Femina Volume 60 Issue 19
Watch out for these tell-tale signs on your first date to save yourself from the hassle of nursing a broken heart.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could predict within the few first dates if your relationship is going to be for keeps? While the equation between partners is dynamic and changes over time, experts say that one can figure out during the first few meetings whether there is a future.
“I encourage people looking for romance to think more with their heads than their hearts. It’s advisable to make a list of what you expect from your date. Only when you have a blueprint, will you know what to look for,” says Aparna Samuel Balasundaram, a psychotherapist, life coach, and author.
Regardless of whether you’ve got a guy’s must-have qualities all chalked out or are still bumbling from relationship to relationship looking for the ‘one’, watching out for these red flags will help you stay away from unsavoury characters and save you from heartbreak later.
HE’S DISRESPECTFUL
If a man disrespects you on the first date, there’s little chance that he’s going to treat you well when you are together. “You can look past things like splitting the bill, age gap, political differences, or a lack of shared interests. However, if a man doesn’t stick to his word, has questionable morals and situational ethics, then you would do well to steer clear of a second date,” advises Dr Amoolya Seth, consultant psychiatrist, Columbia Asia Hospital.

"UGH, I HATE HOW I LOOK!"
If the title to this feature is a sentence that goes off in your head every time you stand in front of the mirror, you need to keep reading. No, this is not your run-of-the-mill self-love spiel that will magically change your self-image by the end. It won't. And it definitely won't silence the voices that have told you to fix, hide, and erase parts of you deemed “too much” or “not enough”. What it will do is offer something rare: a reason, however small, to stop waging war with your reflection, and feel a little better about coming home to the person who's been there all along. You.
