Have You Got A Man-Child On Your Hands?
Femina
|January 24, 2019
The constant pressure of being more of a caretaker than a partner can take a huge toll on your relationship. Arya Chatterjee provides a few pointers to find out if you’ve got a man-child on your hands.

How many times have you been in a situation where the ‘boy’ you’re dating has made it seem like rolling eyes is not just an emoji, but a constant state of living? ‘Boy’ being the operative word here, you find there’s nothing more frustrating than dealing with a guy who has no intention of turning into a man! Many of us have had the misfortune of being saddled with a ‘man-child’ who shuns adult responsibilities and refuses to grow up. And it’s not easy to deal with one in the long-run. So instead of tearing your hair out, wondering what ails your man, and trying to piece the puzzle, read on and figure out if your partner falls into this dreaded category.
HE’S A MOMMA’S BOY
You’ll recognise one from a mile away. Constantly spoon-fed by his parents till adulthood, responsibility and maturity are alien concepts for this guy. Since his parents never expected him to be responsible, he’s appalled when you ask him to pick up after himself in more ways than one. We’re sure there have been innumerable times where you’ve tried to have a ‘real’ conversation about this with him, and he’s cracked a joke and told you to lighten up instead.
According to Dr Prerna Kohli, a clinical psychologist based out of Gurgaon, the man-child syndrome is not that uncommon among men in India. “Men with such immature tendencies have been sheltered their whole life, and sons who are treated as children even in their adulthood are more prone to develop this syndrome,” she says.

"UGH, I HATE HOW I LOOK!"
If the title to this feature is a sentence that goes off in your head every time you stand in front of the mirror, you need to keep reading. No, this is not your run-of-the-mill self-love spiel that will magically change your self-image by the end. It won't. And it definitely won't silence the voices that have told you to fix, hide, and erase parts of you deemed “too much” or “not enough”. What it will do is offer something rare: a reason, however small, to stop waging war with your reflection, and feel a little better about coming home to the person who's been there all along. You.
