World Economic Forum Davos 2018

The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2018, which took place between January 23-26, 2018 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland convened under the theme, ‘Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World’.

Over 2500 leaders from business, government, international organisations, civil society, academia, media and the arts, the aim to agreed with an agenda that drives greater multi-stakeholder collaboration to address political, economic and societal challenges of our times.

The global context today has changed dramatically geostrategic fractures have re-emerged on multiple fronts with wide-ranging political, economic and social consequences. The initiative and the programme is an unparalleled effort to engage leaders in a new shared narrative to improve the state of the world.

Stressing the need for participatory effort, Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman, World Economic Forum has stressed that “Our collective inability to secure inclusive growth and preserve our scarce resources puts multiple global systems at risk simultaneously.

Our first response must be to develop new models for cooperation that are not based on narrow interests but on the destiny of humanity as a whole.

With the World Economic Forum communities and organisational capacity dedicated to driving positive change through 14 distinct System Initiatives, participants at the meeting has contributed to multiple agendas such as

The Global Agenda Supporting efforts to improve global governance mechanisms and advance major multilateral processes; for example, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

The Geopolitical Agenda Convening leaders and experts to prepare for and respond to a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape

Kigali Agreement

A historic global climate deal has been signed in Kigali, Rwanda at the 28th Meeting of the Parties (MoP 28) to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. This agreement which amend the Montreal Protocol, aims to phase out Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) by the late 2040s. Under Kigali Amendment, 197 countries including India have agreed to reduce the use of HFCs by roughly 85% of their baselines by 2045.
