Travel and ticketing agents form an essential part of the tourism industry. Let’s see what career options are on offer…

Delivering Client Specific Services 24x7

Gone are the days when you could buy an air ticket only from a travel agent. Now you probably buy it in on your smart phone. If there’s one sector of travel and tourism where technology has completely overhauled the system, it’s ticketing. The same applies to travel planning. “In the Internet age, technology has fuelled a significant overhaul. In the mid-1990s, the planning and booking of domestic and international travel were taken out of the agency office and brought into the lounge rooms of ordinary consumers. The term ‘Online Travel Agency’ was born and the travel industry changed forever,” says ML Sharma, owner of Travel Huge.

There is so much planning involved in travelling from one place to another that there is a separate segment of the travel and tourism industry which is dedicated for this. These are your travel agencies/ agents and ticketing staff.

Travel Agent

Tourists expect the travel agents/agencies to do their bookings down to the last detail. “Travel agents are expected to know the insecurities and motivations of their clients, delivering a service tailored to their unique needs and wants. The best travel agents of the future will not only have the technical ability to use their management software at its full capacity, they will also understand that clients have selected their services over a computer’s. They will value the ability to instil the confidence in their clients as highly as the ability to organise an itinerary. This will make them successful in this field,” says Sharma.Shutterstock
