Prince William's Fight For The Truth

It was the most controversial and revealing interview that Princess Diana had ever taken part in, where she famously declared, “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

And following allegations of wrongdoing on behalf of the BBC, Prince William has thrown his support behind an inquiry to find out what really went on behind the scenes of his mother’s explosive 1995 interview with Panorama.

“The independent investigation is a step in the right direction,” the prince, 38, said in a rare personal statement released by Kensington Palace, following the announcement that Lord John Dyson, 77, would head a probe into how the network and journalist Martin Bashir, 57, obtained the scoop.

“It should help establish the truth behind the actions that led to the Panorama interview and subsequent decisions taken by those in the BBC at the time,” the Duke of Cambridge further added.

On November 18, the BBC announced they had hired former Supreme Court judge Dyson to lead an independent investigation into the incident after the outlet was accused of using unethical tactics to secure the princess for the TV interview. A previous internal investigation conducted by the organization found no wrongdoing.
