The media has been rife with constant speculation about her love life. It has consumed enough news columns ever since the report of her romantic liaison going kaput was out in the open, being daily fodder for entertainment. Irrespective of conjectures about her private life and a volley of outrageous questions thrown at her, the actress has remained unaffected, tightlipped, and has managed to maintain a dignified silence over the same. As a matter of fact, she appears calm, composed and more at peace probably than ever before. In a rendezvous with the gorgeous actress, Pooja Sharma notices a happier Katrina Kaif, who’s all smiles and giggles, and tackles every question with grace and poise.

How did you research and prep for the character you played in Fitoor?

The character was inspired from Great Expectations. The basic traits and personality was very similar because we kept the experiences similar. But for this character, one just had to spend a lot of time with the director, Abhishek Kapoor. I believe he’s very good. Even if you look at the earlier films he has made, Kai Po Che and Rock On!!, I think the strength lies in his characters. The movies are great, the stories are great. I think he has a knack of understanding human nature and behavior. Even on sets when we were conversing and discussing life or the character Firdaus, he always had insightful and poignant things to say. Every time I talk to him, I’m amazed that a person who seems so young, carefree and easy-going, has such a depth of knowledge.

Do you think this film has fetched you critical acclaim, which perhaps, has been missing in your career, although you’ve delivered commercially successful Box Office hits? What do you look for in a film - commercial viability or substantial content?

I have no idea. If we knew which films would give us critical acclaim as well as commercial success then obviously, that’s something we would make sure we achieved with every film. But I don’t sign films for acclaim or for success. I just follow my instinct and the feeling I have in my heart towards films, for instance Rajneeti, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan or Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
