I Spy Says Sidharth Malhotra

You have done quite a few thrillers like Ek Villain and Ittefaq in the past and now you are back with Aiyaary. Is ‘thriller’ your most prefered genre off late?

Not really! I have also done love stories as well as action films, so there is no such specific genre which is my favourite or more interesting. I just like to do different stories. And Ittefaq was very exciting for me because I got to play a negative character – something nobody expected me to do. I just followed my instincts and then when it worked out well, I was really happy. Again, Aiyaary is a wonderful story, and also it’s by far my most real story. It is a spy thriller and has a wonderful message in the end for the youth to get inspired by.

Aiyaary has an army backdrop. What kind of preparations and training did you undergo for this role?

Well, I had to do more of research rather than undergo any kind of training. My research was basically done just to know what the military intelligence do, which is what the film is inspired by and this is what makes it a thriller. Aiyaary is based on a young and an older spy, who are competing with each other. We just tried to gain the knowledge of how the army functions, and what it really does? The film is a very real interpretation of what actually happens in a spy’s life. I am playing a character and projecting something that generally does happen in real life so that was very exciting for me.

Talking about the army, does Aiyaary have many elements of nationalism?
