Graceful, elegant, and chic are just a few synonyms people would use for him. When he walks into a room, all he has is women staring at this carefully carved creation of God, but Fawad Khan shies away from that attention. His smile, a perfect voice and his impeccable Urdu are Cupid’s gift to him for knocking down a girl’s heart. As this charming man, the latest export from across the border, gears up to reign in Bollywood, he talks to Nawaz Kochra about his latest films, juggling between two countries, and more.

Fawad Khan: "Alia Bhatt Is Intimidating".

Your debut was all about Kapoor and daughters, and your latest was Kapoor and Sons. What was the journey like?

The journey in between has been very slow, according to many people. It took me two years to sign another film, but it’s been rewarding. Yeh jo safar raha hai, the fruit I have reaped from this is great. No regrets for that, in fact, now I’m an official Kapoor (smiles).

Do you think this was the right time to come up with a second film?

Bas films hi mujhe abhi jaakar offer hui thi (laughs). There were films offered, but I was looking for my space, which I wanted to try, before I ventured into something mainstream. I wanted to try something that is more my zone. In Khoobsurat, I had just stepped in, I was testing the waters, and with Kapoor and Sons, I have taken a dive in the lake. And now, after this, I’m going to go deep-sea diving. It took me a while, because I was not agreeable to the genre that was being offered. Khoobsurat was a great start, and when this film fell onto my lap, I felt this is what I wanted to do.

What attracted you to Kapoor and Sons?

It was an amazing screenplay. The sensibilities and the world were so real that you would actually get immersed in them. And what I liked was that it wasn’t a one-actor film. Films or any other medium where actors are involved, should be a more collaborative effort, rather than one person driving a story. This film gave equal opportunity to everyone to chip in, and it turned out very beautiful.

Since you’ve dived into the lake, do you plan to swim carefully, or will you still experiment?
