An Accidental Actor!

How did you become an actor?

I became an actor accidentally while I was in high school. I grew up in a not exactly filmi background but the one which pertains to films, in the sense that both my parents were film critics and film archivists. So I grew up with international cinema. I never did theatre but I started off with advertisements and TV which gave me recognition and a lot of fame and that’s how it all began.

Is there any difference in between regional films and Hindi films? If yes, what?

Well, the only difference is the scale in which the films are made. Both Hindi films and regional content have some good stuff to present but regional films often lose out on the kind of content they want to present on a greater scale. But I believe a lot of good content is being created and Bengali cinema is expanding as well.

Is the transition from Bengali to Hindi films difficult?

No, cinema is cinema. I have done movies in a lot of languages and it is not difficult. There is a lot of synergy that is happening between regional cinema and Hindi films in the recent years and I am very glad to see that. I think we all together are trying to make India cinema. I think the exchange between Bollywood and regional cinema is very necessary and I am very happy to see it taking place. I am definitely looking forward to working more in Hindi films.
