When Harry Meghan Met A Royal Love Story…
Royal Britain Presents Royal Life
|Issue 35
At the end of 2016, Meghan Markle declared in an interview that she was the “luckiest girl in the world.” At the time she was actually talking about her career as an emerging star on the hit TV show, Suits, as well as her philanthropic pursuits and her new fashion range. But in retrospect, it is easy to see she could also have been inferring to her new relationship with Prince Harry, which had only just begun to be public knowledge.

The strange thing is that Meghan herself says she had no preconceived notions about who he was before they first met. “Because I’m from the States,” she said, “you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the Royal Family. I didn’t know much about him, so the only thing that I had asked (our mutual friend) when she said she wanted to set us up was, ‘Well is he nice?’. Because if he wasn’t kind, it just didn’t seem it would make sense.”
Luckily the two hit it off immediately. “We met for a drink,” explained Meghan. “And then I think very quickly into that we said, ‘Well what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.’” Things moved quickly on from there. The couple went on a second date and then Price Harry invited Meghan to accompany him on a trip to Africa just three or four weeks later.
“I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana and we camped out with each other under the stars,” he said. “Then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure we had a chance to get to know each other.”
