A ROYAL Engagement
Royal Britain Presents Royal Life
|Issue 35
On 27 November 2017, Clarence House announced that Prince Harry would marry Meghan Markle in the spring of 2018. They were engaged earlier the same month in London. The couple then took part in a broadcast interview that won the hearts of the world!

When the Royal engagement was officially announced, it was also revealed that Prince Harry had given Meghan a bespoke engagement ring made by Cleave and Company. Prince Harry designed the engagement ring himself, using a diamond from Botswana and two diamonds from his mother Princess Diana’s personal jewelry collection “to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.”
At the same time, it was announced that the couple would live at Nottingham Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace following their marriage. The Queen gave her blessing to the union, as Prince Harry is obliged to ask her permission under the Succession to the Crown Act 2013.
In a statement issued by Kensington Palace, Meghan’s parents Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland celebrated news of the engagement. “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry.
Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person,” they said. “To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”
Official photographs of Prince Harry and his fiancee, taken by the fashion and celebrity photographer Alexi Lubomirski, were released by Kensington Palace to mark the couple’s engagement.
One was a black and white portrait showing them in an intimate embrace, and the other a more formal portrait of them sitting together holding hands. Lubomirski, whose previous subjects have included the actors Julia Roberts, Julianne Moore and Angelina Jolie, took the portraits at Frogmore House, Windsor.
