The Swedish sensation builds on her Hollywood success with roles as an action heroine, a producer —and a newlywed.

It’s been a banner year for Alicia Vikander: She premiered Euphoria, her first film as a  producer as well as a star, at the Toronto Film Festival; she tackled the iconic role of Lara Croftin the action-adventure reboot slated for 2018; and she married her love of three years, Michael Fassbender. The 29-year-old Swedish native, whose first film in English was 2012’s Anna Karenina, looks back on a dizzying career that has already netted her an Oscar. “I was so hungry,” she says of landing her first role, in the drama Pure, seven years ago. “I still am.”

You trained with the Royal Swedish Ballet before becoming an actress. Did that impact how you approach acting?
