It is those eyes. Kalyani Saha’s eyes. The way she defines her big eyes with kohl or liner always makes them stand out. It pretty much also defines how she draws attention to everything else she does, because of the way she does it!

The edge that Kalyani has over other women in the social circuit is that she’s self-made. And a fanatic work-horse. Her enviable life consists of travels to exotic destinations, fashion meccas and hobnobbing with her highly placed friends from all over the world, in their gilded mansions. But she’s earned every ounce of the life she has created in the ionosphere of Indian high-society. Here, she maps out her journey for HELLO!

Early influences: “I am a thoroughbred Bengali. Having grown up in Kolkata, the exposure to the arts, literature and music, and a lack of other distractions (like the internet that we have today), drew us to books. My parents took us for plays, musical soirées and museums instead – and I am grateful for that. I am the eldest grandchild in the family and was spoilt silly by both sets of grandparents who were also my biggest influences while growing up, in a joint family. My maternal grandfather was a political writer and his close friends were stalwarts of modern Indian history. The late Nepalese Prime Minister BP Koirala was one, and it wouldn’t be too much to say that the Nepalese Congress party was born in my grandfather’s home. When he passed away, the Nepalese flag was at halfmast at the Parliament. As kids, we were often regaled with discussions, opinions, stories of the freedom movement in which my grandfather had participated.
