Mellow, affable and easy to approach, Bose Krishnamachari appears to be the man of the moment, with many a guest pivoting in his direction as he strides into Hyatt Regency Delhi for the HELLO! India Art Awards.

This JJ School of Art alumnus with a fan following across the globe woos art aficionados with an unparalleled body of work that covers the entire gamut — be it abstracts, figures, sculpture or photography. He’s played a prolific role in not only making art accessible and opening artistic practices to a larger audience, but also putting together landmark exhibitions that espoused all the qualities of a great show.

Our ‘Curator of the Year’ is largely responsible for bringing the Kochi-Muziris Biennale the nationwide recognition it enjoys today, having steered the platform to great heights by encouraging new artistic practices. In fact, Krishnamachari’s repertoire of curated shows is one of the many reasons he attracts such praise today. There was his ‘Bombay X 17’ in Kochi and ‘The Bombay Boys’ in New Delhi in 2004; his travelling exhibition ‘Double-Enders’ in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kochi in 2005; and his curated travelling project ‘LaVa’ (Laboratory of Audio Visual Arts) between 2007 and 2011, which now has a permanent spot as a library of books, music and videos at Fort Kochi.
