Feeding for Breeding
Practical Poultry
|January - February 2020
It may be winter, but as Joanna Palmer, nutritionist for Smallholder Range explains, now’s the time to get your flock in tiptop shape and plan ahead for a successful breeding season next spring.
-

You can significantly increase the fertility of your flock and improve hatchability of the eggs by feeding a specific breeder feed. Smallholder Range Specialist Poultry Breeder Pellets is a feed that is formulated to meet the higher nutritional demands of adult breeding birds; with a protein and energy level higher than that of standard layers pellets. Breeder pellets have boosted levels of essential vitamins including vitamins A and E which are essential for normal functioning of the reproductive system and to aid correct chick development, as well as to promote high rates of hatching and chick survival. Important minerals such as calcium are also included at higher rates for eggshell formation and the skeletal development of chicks.
