Shanèy Vijendranath is one of two selected from Africa for a global mentorship program for startups that use tech to solve problems.
WHEN NEWLY-MARRIED Shanèy Vijendranath became a mom at 21, she realized it was a lonely journey, especially without a good support system. She lost a number of friends after her daughter’s birth as they were in different phases of their lives.
In December 2013, at age 23, she decided to start a blog, You, Baby and I.
“My intention was not to start a new business or become a full-time blogger. I launched the blog because I wanted to connect with other young moms who understood me and felt the same emotions.”
“Growing my blog happened accidentally. I know that may not make sense but one of my first popular posts, ‘15 Things First-Time Moms Should Have’, did extremely well on Pinterest and Facebook. At that moment, I realized I may be on to something because moms worldwide were visiting my blog; they valued my opinion.”
