Tillage practices for wheat

Unnecessary tillage costs money, time and effort, and valuable soil water is lost in the process. It also results in re-compaction of the soil, a problem that has to be addressed later.

If you are using no-till cultivation for wheat, plant the seed at a rate of 20kg/ha to 100kg/ha, depending on the cultivar and on soil moisture. FW ARCHIV
As a wheat producer, you can practise minimum-tillage (75mm to 130mm deep), deep tillage (150mm to 300mm) or no-till, depending on soil type, moisture availability, cultivar and the previous crop planted.
For summer wheat production under irrigation, immediately after harvesting the previous crop in May, plough the land, disc, and plant the wheat. No more than two weeks should elapse between crops for field operations, and there should be no fallow period.
