Criteria: Right-hand drive - tick. Fully restored - tick. A classic bay - tick. Within budget? - Well you can’t have everything you want in life can you!
Every now and then a bus takes your eye at a show and that’s exactly what happened with David Mitchell’s crossover bay of Australian origins. Some buses you drool over thanks to their antiquity, others set the heart racing due to their originality and a cherished few draw you like a magnet with a restoration where a recipe of aesthetics and practicalities provide unadulterated pleasure for an owner. David’s bus falls into this last category as the pictures hopefully illustrate. A man with more than a passing interest in classic Mini’s, David and his wife’s decision to buy a camper was all about their younger children (the youngest is five) revelling in the experience while they are still little, creating in the process, memories to last a lifetime. David knows the cost of keeping an old vehicle on the road thanks to his Mini experience and as a result ruled out the iconic split in favour of a bay which should cost less to purchase too.

Lance & Lisa Beaver tell the story of their...‘Old School' Westfalia Bay
The history of our bus is varied. I heard that it used to belong to a soccer player who lived in it for a while, and a tale of a cross country trip that was taken in it. Since we’ve owned it, we have been to numerous car shows with our car club Kahiko Kula and enjoy that immensely, but taking it camping is our joy.
