Supercharge Your Sleep
T3 Magazine
|January 2017
Tired of insomnia? Exhausted by restless sleep? Want to maximise the precious few hours you do spend in bed? Then it might be time to overhaul your slumber with sleep engineering.
We live in a super-connected society, so no wonder sleep is now considered a precious commodity. There are many things that can interfere with our shuteye, with technology, stress, diet, lifestyle and a disruptive bedroom environment among the main culprits.
T3’s had enough of subpar sleep, so we visited Rested (www.rested.com), a London based curator of sleep products designed to turn any bedroom into a haven of relaxation, for advice. Rested is part of an exciting movement called sleep engineering, so who better to coach us on supercharged sleep?
Here we speak with Toby Walzer, Sleep Optimisation Expert and a Director of Rested: Sleep Engineering, to find out what sleep engineering is and how you can utilise its principles and tools to sleep better than ever, boosting both productivity and wellbeing. This is sleep tech, but not as you know it…
BECOME A SLEEP ENGINEER
The promise of creating a better night’s sleep is hugely appealing, especially to those who have experienced the desperation of insomnia or the frustration of broken sleep. Sleep affects our performance, mood and wellbeing. Yet many of us make do with a mattress bought online, or pillows snapped up at the local supermarket.
Luckily the sleep engineering movement is growing in the UK, with people becoming more educated on how to create a nourishing night’s sleep using products designed to foster just that. So what exactly is sleep engineering? Toby explains: “The fundamental belief behind sleep engineering is that having good quality sleep is key to daily performance and long-term health. There’s an understanding that the more comfortable you are, the better you sleep.”
