Walter and his crew at Coastal Customs in Mossel Bay were approached by Vernon Kemp, who owns a 1954 Chevrolet Thrift Master project that was taken away from a shop in Kempton, Gauteng after he was not happy with the paint job that they had done.

The project was first sent to Willies Panel Beaters in George to be repainted.
Once this was done, the truck arrived at Coastal Customs for reassembly. When the truck arrived at the shop, loaded with parts, Walter was amazed to find out that every part of the truck was actually brand new. Basically the only original part on the pick-up was the cab. Every fender, grille, piece of glass, rubbers and handles were brand new and shiny. Most people would think this would make the project a lot easier to rebuild but apparently this is not the case.
Walter told us that to get the body properly prepared and to get all the parts to fit correctly, took well over a month.
