What The World Needs Now Is Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato
Motor Trend

What the world needs now is this ...

Sterrato. It’s one of those wonderful, not totally translatable Italian words. Similar to countach, a Piedmontese expression that’s a cross between “holy cow” and something a bit more blue.
Sterrato, in the broadest sense, means “dirt road.” But a sterrato is more like an unplowed field. It’s untamed, unconquered. Ferruccio Lamborghini made his first fortune building tractors. Most of the roads around Sant’Agata are sterrati. What this has to do with a 630-horsepower Mars attack rover I will leave up to you. If nothing else, it’s a fun word to say.
So what is this thing? A Huracán Evo that’s been raised nearly 2 inches and had its track widened by over an inch. The Sterrato’s wheel arches are both wider and 3-D-printed to accommodate the wider balloon tires, 235/45R20 front, and 305/40R20 rear. The front axle has been moved forward 3 inches to accommodate the larger tires, which necessitated new control arms and longer front fenders. Aluminum armor plating has been added to the bottom of the Sterrato’s snout, on its side sills, and under the rear fascia. That rear hunk of metal also acts as a diffuser, because of Lamborghini. The approach angle is increased by just 1 degree; the departure angle increases by 6.5 degrees.

John and Jane Public aren't warming to electric cars at the rate many in the automotive industry thought they would, and that's mostly because EVs still can't match the cost and convenience of gasoline-powered alternatives.

SMOOTH BUT GLITCHY
We're less than a year away from seeing “millions” of autonomous Teslas roaming the globe, if Elon Musk’s April earnings call prognostications hold true. How’s Full Self-Driving Unsupervised going? To find out, we flew to the first test market, Austin, Texas, and caught seven rides in the initial Model Y Robotaxi. (Austin is unique among American cities in offering a choice of autonomous ride-hailing services, as Waymo has a fleet of its Jaguar I-Pace cars available via the Uber app. So we resolved to attempt a comparison, beginning on page 86.) Note Tesla’s Robotaxi is not to be confused with its two-door Cybercab; rather, it’s based on a long-range dual-motor 2026 Model Y Juniper.

More Than a Charging Station, More Than a Fast-Food Joint, the Tesla Diner Might Just Be Crazy Enough to Work
In case you need the reminder, car companies don't own and operate restaurants. Then again, they don't own and operate gas stations, either, and Tesla has proven owning and operating its own charging network was a brilliant business decision. The Tesla Diner, though, is uncharted territory. Will history repeat itself?
