Heavy Duty Motorsports strikes horsepower gold with this ‘no lag’ installation

- David Cohen

High Speed Highball

When Shane Endycott, from Heavy Duty Motorsports sent me a text saying, “You better get over here and have a look at this Victory we’ve just finished mate,” including a snapshot of its Dyno graph, you could say my interest was ‘engaged’.

“Does that say 167 ponies!?” I shot back.

When he replied, “You bet!” I was at their Oxley workshops almost immediately, for what turned out to be a very exhilarating test-skid on the fastest Victory I’ve ridden.

First I sat down with Shane and Simon Yates to get the back-story.

Simon began, “It’s a 2011 Victory Highball and its owner ‘Sumo’ is a customer from Tassie we had spoken to a number of times. He asked Shane if we could fit a turbocharger and so the bike came up to sunny Queensland and we began work on the build.

Shane set about his calculations and worked out the best size and style of turbo required, then set about working out the best location on the bike to fit it.

We’d seen a number of different Victory Motorcycles with turbochargers mounted, but nothing that really enhanced the lines of the Highball, so Shane decided on something we haven’t seen on any other Victory, a left hand mount. This suits the Victory engine particularly well because the cylinders are off-set to the right. The turbo fits in there snugly and actually adds balance to the bike – plus it sits right out of the rider’s way.
