Two-wheeler safety tech set to evolve

Continental which recently displayed a variety of technologies for two-wheelers hopes to introduce them in the market in about three years. The display took place at the company's two-wheeler TechDrive event where the products included ARAS Technologies, Advanced ABS, connected technologies, surface solutions, and more.

"There is the mainstream market for bikes less than 100cc segment which is price sensitive segment but in the 100cc to 300cc, there is a market for products with functionalities such as Blind Spot Detection, Optimised Curve Braking, Rear Wheel Lift Protection and more. These new products are already under test," said Krishan Kohli, India Market Head -VED & HBS, Managing Director, Continental Automotive Brake Systems .

In Kohli's view, the technologies are being worked on but as an example, he cites ARAS where just the product functionality isn't enough. The whole ecosystem has to be ready and that will take some time before it enters the price sensitive mainstream segment," Kohli explains.

Held at the Taneja Aerospace and Aviation in Hosur, Continental showcased the USPs of its ARAS for two wheelers with live vehicle at the airstrip. These included besides BSD and PCB, others such as a Digital Service Platform, Telematics Control Unit (TCU), Deflation Detection System Plus (DDS+), Mobile Communication Unit (MCU), 48V Battery Management System (BMS), Wheel Speed Sensors (WSS), Engine Speed Sensor, eRPS (Electric Rotary Position sensor), Key as a Service (KaaS) and more.
