An unplanned trip to Rajasthan with the Hyundai Santro sees us chance upon some interesting locations that make for a great weekend getaway

Usually when we head out for a trip there is a lot of planning involved regarding the location, the routes, points of interest and so on. any trip for that matter tends to require a fair bit of planning. This time however, we decided to shake things up a bit. Instead of racking our brains devising a plan, we decided to strap ourselves into the car and head to explore Rajasthan's countryside. Giving us company was the current star of Hyundai’s lineup – the new Santro. With a vague idea of what Rajashtan’s Alwar district had in store for us we set out and here’s what we came across.
The history of alwar can be traced back to 1000 Ce. The area fell under the rule of the king of Amer in the 11th century. He established the city in 1049 Ce as Alpur, which eventually came to be known as Alwar. during the period of the British Raj, the princely state of Alwar was ruled by the Kachwaha Rajput dynasty. Following India’s independence in 1947, Alwar merged with Bharatpur, Dholpur and Karauli to form the Matsya Union. Its unison with the neighbouring princely states and the territory of Ajmer led to the formation of present day Rajasthan in May 1949. Chief among the city’s popular tourist spots are the Sariska Tiger Reserve and Bhangarh Fort. Our agenda, however, was to check out the lesser known spots.
