In the second series of the illustration, Architect Arun Sawant explores impossible possibilities of human potential through the concept of aliens, art and architecture. Inspired by his childhood and later by formal education, the architect plays with ideas of real and unreal manifestations.
Aliens to me are where reality and supernatural prowess of the universe converge. Cartoons, mythology and supernatural notions always fascinated me in my childhood as they made me question reality and limitations. Our civilization with many religions, stories and ideas have created many disparate but thought-provoking and rich cultures. The more you explore, the more there is to learn. And then you realize that knowing more only tells you how much more you don’t know. And the process of learning continues in this cycle. I grew up listening to stories of Indian mythology; the gods with different supernatural powers, with different physical features, personality and even shades of good and bad. This idea of god and mystic was then given a layer of imagery through cartoons on television. While gods always seemed all-encompassing and powerful, cartoons opened up the possibility that not just god, but even regular objects, inanimate things can imbibe great power.
