David McCreath, Senior Designer at Hacker Kitchens, reveals his top tops for making the festive season bright and stress-free.
What are your top three tips for creating a kitchen for entertaining? Firstly, seating is key – especially in relation to where the action is. At Hacker, we often design kitchens with a central island. These are ideal for entertaining, as seating can be arranged around the island; and if an induction hob is on the island, guests can watch their host cook and prepare meals, creating theatre and excitement. Secondly, making best use of the space you have so that guests can join you and mingle in the kitchen will make the world of difference. This is solved with great design and tricks such as sleek handle-less cabinets. Finally, merging living and kitchen areas. Choosing a cabinet for the living room that is the same as that in the kitchen means that they match perfectly and can also be used to create bespoke pieces to great effect – whether it’s as a storage unit, an entertainment unit, a bookcase or shelving. This allows the living area to become a seamless and stylish space for entertaining.
