Pallavi Dean, Founder and Creative Director of Roar speaks to identity about the way in which her human-centred approach to design informed the transformation of a Jumeirah Islands Villa into a contemporary family home.

- Jennifer Copley

Contemporary Simplicity

For Pallavi Dean, Founder and Creative Director of award-winning interior design studio Roar, design is human-centred. Whether designing for offices and homes or for projects in the education and hospitality sector – from the Ora Nursery of the Future to the Al Rawi bookshop and Café and AUS’s Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park – every project starts with the specific needs of the client. Dean explains: “Our design philosophy revolves around deep client empathy. Before we even put pencil to paper, we try and understand what the client is trying to achieve with the space.” Nowhere is this more evident than in Roar’s recently designed Jumeirah Islands villa project – a private residence that was completed in March. The transformation from dated conventional villa to unique, contemporary home for a young family took an impressive six months.
