The festive season brings mixed feelings for Tessa Waugh, although the school nativity play proves a hit and Father Christmas makes an unexpected appearance in a local town

ARE you one of those people who hates the taste of turkey? Cringes at the word Santa? From the moment those old Christmas favourites start jangling on the radio, I am full of mixed feelings about the festive season.

It’s the same with the Christmassy music. We all have our favorites and ones we love to loathe. Are you a Chris Rea fan crooning along to Driving Home for Christmas or do you enjoy a good screech to Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You? I never get bored of Wham’s Last Christmas or the sexy, rasping voices in the Pogues’ classic, Fairytale of New York. Noddy Holder makes me want to cry and shut myself in a cupboard until it’s all over.
