SA Scoops 35th Gold Medal At The Chelsea Flower Show

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) team, at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show, won SA’s 35th gold medal in 42 years of exhibiting at the prestigious show, recently held in London in the UK.

SANBI also won the President’s Award. The theme of the SANBI display was, ‘Windows on Biodiversity’, and all 10 of South Africa’s national botanical gardens, namely, Free State, Hantam, Harold Porter, Karoo Desert, Kirstenbosch, Kwelera, Lowveld, KwaZuluNatal, Pretoria and Walter Sisulu, were represented.

SANBI designers, David Davidson and Raymond Hudson, said that receiving the President’s Award was beyond their wildest dreams, and stressed that the display was very much a team effort that would not have come together without the help of SANBI staff and volunteers.
