Admit it – you’ve probably done it before. You’ve been looking at an interesting bird or other creature through your scope or even your binoculars and wanted a photograph of it. So you’ve put your mobile phone’s camera up against the eyepiece and tried for a picture, hoping to obtain an image clear enough to convince the local rare bird alert that it is actually a mega-rarity that you’ve found.

The difficulty involved in lining the camera up with the eyepiece has of course been solved by the advent of special adapters, which come in various shapes and forms and with varying levels of success and frustration involved in their use.
