During last year’s LRF Stockman School, aspects such as eye-muscle area, backfat thickness, and marbling were among the topics discussed. These are the aspects measured in stud bulls and, if incorporated in selection processes, should yield higher quality carcasses in the measured bull’s progeny. But do stud and commercial cattle producers give these traits the attention they deserve and are producers’ goals in this regard aligned with that of feedlots? In the April issue of Stockfarm we examine this question from a few angles.
