Loyal readers, Spring has sprung – a very special time for the fish in our rivers, especially the smallmouth yellowfish in the Vaal River. Rohan Koegelenberg discusses the yellows’ spawning behaviour and the role anglers play in this important process as spawning season heralds the most vulnerable stage in the lives of these fish.
National Braai Day or African Heritage Day is celebrated on 24 September this year, symbolising sunshine, fun times with family and friends, new beginnings, spring, the sound of children splashing in the pool, and of course, the smell of braai meat. Why not try a healthy alternative . . . fish fillet with tomato wedges, onion rings, mint leaves and mushrooms.
Talking about a mouth-watering experience – this was indeed the case at this year’s SA Fishing Tackle Agents and Distributors show held in Gauteng, where the latest and greatest in fishing tackle was introduced to traders.
But more about a “gift” of a different kind ... Once you feel the fight of the tiger at the end of your line, your heart will be hooked forever.
