I remember the day I consciously realised the concept of charity or that my existence was supposed to be more than just being me. Albert Einstein’s words, “Only a life lived for others is worth living” rang out like a bell tower. It made me stop to think. While many friends disagreed with this notion, it was true for me. They say that when you hear the truth, your soul pretty much recognises it to be so; it’s a strange yet remarkable thing. From that day onwards, I’ve stopped to think and reflect on my actions towards others, and would ask myself every now and then, “What exactly have I done to help make this world a better place? Have I made life easier or better for someone today?” In this Special Edition, it seems like there are quite a few blessed souls who do just that. The stories within these pages are truly moving and inspiring, telling of charity and compassion for mankind. Of course, the difficult task of having to exclude so many good people can be misleading; for practical purposes, it had to be done. Do know however, that the living saints within these pages represent so many more out there who embody the hope for humanity – the gift of chance.
