Since the beginning of Christianity, Asia has been marked by holiness as the land that welcomed Jesus, His preaching, and His call for true disciples. The inspired witnessing of passionate missionaries gave rise to fervant believers who accepted death rather than rejected their faith. The wave of persecutions spread across different countries and martyrdom became, for many, the summit of holiness. It is worth remembering that the continent of Asia has the largest number of martyrs. This is not only a noble achievement for mission but also a legacy which speaks of God’s beauty in Asian lives. Holiness and martyrdom have become the true horizon of Christian living.
Having an immense wealth of Asian saints is not a relic of the past, but continues to inspire, nurture, and spur Christian communities today that speak of these heroic lives as “our martyrs.” Truly, the beauty of God’s holiness lives on in Asian lives.
