The Mu Sigma Phi Sorority: A Tradition of Service and Excellence

History bears witness to the strength of the sisterhood shared by these women doctors and would-be doctors. More than eight decades marked by sterling achievements in academic and professional excellence, service, and leadership—all built on a solid foundation of sisterhood.

The Mu Sigma Phi Sorority endures: Resilient as it is pliable, molded over time by the pursuit of the mission and vision it was founded upon. The aspirations of seven ladies from the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Medicine in 1934 have been, and continue to be, realized, as a roster of over a thousand women-doctors are bound by the principles and traditions of the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority, the oldest medical sorority in Asia.

For this issue, the H&L staff gives way to the guest editors and contributors from the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority as they highlight important aspects on holistic health, fitness and wellness.

Let us join them as they celebrate their 80th year with the theme, “Healthy Healers for a Healthy Nation”. This theme and the four pillars (Sisterhood, Scholarship, Service, and Leadership) are embodied in the activities set for the year-long celebration of the Sorority’s 80th anniversary.
