“Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it,” Andy Warhol, an American artist and director, had once remarked. Inspiration is all around us, but it is only the gifted few who see things differently. This issue of ADORN spotlights some global iconic designers from the gem and Jewellery industry, who express their ideas and creations that bear their individual stamp of ingenuity. Take the Spanish Jewellery brand Magerit (see Global Icon), headquartered in Madrid. Motivated by the Art Nouveau form, the avant-garde house is known for showcasing man and beast co-existing harmoniously in nature. The sculptural, sinewy forms of jewellery recreate life-like visions and bear a unique design lexicon.
Fawaz Gruosi, founder and creative head of de Grisogono, Geneva, enjoys a huge fan-following of A-list Hollywood celebrities, who wear his creations to make a strong impression at red carpet events. Exploding with colourful contrasts, Gruosi’s jewellery spells high quotient glamour (see Shining Light).
Emerald, the verdant gemstone, is the muse of UK-based designer Gargi Rathi, who is of Indian origin. Her love affair with emeralds goes back to her childhood days. She believes that emeralds must be worn by all women, and her brand is the only one in the world that is dedicated to emerald jewellery with diamonds and pearls used as accents (see Creative Charisma).
The epic and surreal works of the renowned goldsmith, engraver and sculptor, the late Gio’ Pomodoro, are being showcased at Museo del Gioiello (Jewellery Museum) in Vicenza, Italy, (see Museum Tour). It’s a befitting retrospective of the artist, who was ahead of his times.
Sobhita Dhulipala, actor and former Miss Femina India Earth, models temple jewellery, one of the most celebrated forms of Indian artistry, in our Cover Feature.
