Known for her roles in the cult classic comedies Reno 911! and The Goldbergs, Wendi McLendon-Covey has been delighting audiences for more than 20 years—despite facing rejection early in her career. Here, Wendi shares how gratitude, laughter and small joys keep her going, no matter what comes her way

Wendi McLendon-Covey always knew she was meant to be an actress, but there was a time when she feared her dream might slip away. “I sacrificed a lot,” admits Wendi, who got her start at the legendary Groundlings Theatre in Los Angeles. “I chose my battles and wanted to get ahead, so I buckled down and did the work.”

Her natural talent for improv and sketch comedy, combined with an unshakable determination, paved the way for Wendi to become a household name. “I’m grateful for everything I have now, and for the opportunity to make people laugh,” the 55-year-old shares with Woman's World. “Laughter is the best medicine—it pulls you out of dark places.” Here, her tips finding the light.

Set in a hospital in Oregon, NBC's new hit mockumentary St. Denis Medical follows Wendi in the role of Joyce, an administrator who keeps the staff in the ER on their toes. As always, Wendi brings her signature offbeat humor to the character. "Joyce is a volcano ready to explode," Wendi laughs. "But her goal is to make real change from the inside."
