Wow with a cooling summer cut

Lovely 'lob'

A collarbone-skimming long bob, or "lob," is the perfect length for styling into cooling updos, yet is also light and airy when worn loose, says celebrity hairstylist Carrie Butterworth. "That's because the cut's layering takes physical weight out of the hair, so you feel cooler by having less density on your head."

WHAT TO ASK FOR: A long bob that sits above the bust with slightly rounded ends and face-framing layers that begin just below the chin.

STYLING TIP: Spritz hair with a heat protectant spray (like Sun Bum Heat Protector, CVS.com) to thwart heat damage, then flat-iron hair in 1" sections, pulling strands inward in a C-like motion at the ends.

Snipping hair into a jaw-length layered bob infuses locks with loads of breeze-catching movement that can tamp down on sweating, says Jerome Lordet, celebrity hairstylist and owner of Jerome Lordet Salon in New York City. "Plus, the cut is still long enough that you can pull it up and off the neck."

The Mary Tyler Moore SHOW

From That Girl in the 1960s to Ally McBeal in the 1990s to Sex and the City in the 2000s, television has long reflected the shifting image of independent women. Yet the true game-changer came in 1970, when The Mary Tyler Moore Show introduced Mary Richards—30, single, stylish and making her way in a newsroom full of men. Rather than being someone’s wife or daughter, she was the star, and she changed television forever. Join us for a look back at rare behind-the-scenes photos of the groundbreaking show as we celebrate its 55th anniversary.

Happy money, happy holidays

The holidays are here (yay!), and with them comes both joy and, let's be honest, stress. For many of us, the shopping lists, entertaining costs or the ache of an empty chair at the table can dim the sparkle of the season. If that's you, please accept my wishes that the days land lightly.
