Feeling agitated? Your levels of oxytocin may need a boost. Also known as the ‘love hormone,’ oxytocin helps us form emotional bonds and empathize with others. But it also protects against stress, irritability and anxiety. In fact, a study in Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience found that people with high oxytocin levels reported greater life satisfaction than those with lower levels of the hormone. We've rounded up the secrets to shoring up a shortfall

Heartfelt key to calm & content

Savor scrambled eggs for breakfast

And toss in some cheese too. Eggs and cheeses such as mozzarella and cheddar are high in an amino acid known as tryptophan. And research conducted in the Netherlands suggests that enjoying three daily servings of tryptophan-rich fare can increase your oxytocin levels within a single day. Experts note that tryptophan is a building block for serotonin, a chemical that triggers oxytocin release. Other tryptophan-rich foods to enjoy include salmon, turkey and tofu.

The Mary Tyler Moore SHOW

From That Girl in the 1960s to Ally McBeal in the 1990s to Sex and the City in the 2000s, television has long reflected the shifting image of independent women. Yet the true game-changer came in 1970, when The Mary Tyler Moore Show introduced Mary Richards—30, single, stylish and making her way in a newsroom full of men. Rather than being someone’s wife or daughter, she was the star, and she changed television forever. Join us for a look back at rare behind-the-scenes photos of the groundbreaking show as we celebrate its 55th anniversary.

Happy money, happy holidays

The holidays are here (yay!), and with them comes both joy and, let's be honest, stress. For many of us, the shopping lists, entertaining costs or the ache of an empty chair at the table can dim the sparkle of the season. If that's you, please accept my wishes that the days land lightly.
