Laurel is sure her love story with Ryan is over as she steps into the airport...until a surprise visitor changes everything

Laurel gripped the handle of her roller bag and waved to her cab driver before spinning on her heel to face the airport entrance.

“This is it,” she whispered. “No turning back now.”

One foot in front of the other was the way forward. And she was determined to make these strides with confidence. Taking a deep breath, she focused on each step: One. And two. Repeat.

Today’s trip had been a long time coming. Resigning from her job as a nurse at the city hospital felt monumental, like she was possibly throwing away the best thing that had ever happened to her. But she was not just leaving her current career.

She was leaving Ryan.

Doctor Ryan Tribodore had been a surgeon whom Laurel first met in the hospital cafeteria. Easy conversation happened immediately, but it was their common interest in things outside of work—including hikes and books—that led them into friendship…and eventually a relationship.

Their two months together had been wonderful, but when a new career path arose for Laurel as a traveling nurse, she was tempted. She could make more money and have a chance to see places that had previously been out of her reach.
