Certainly, we've all heard that “Opposites Attract,” but in contrast to this belief, we don’t end up marrying those who are our opposites.

You may deliberately select someone who is taller or more accomplished. However, if we examine our relationships more closely, we will discover many commonalities. A well-known line from Woody Allen's film - Annie Hall, “Don’t knock masturbation. It’s sex with someone I love.” Indeed, any relationship functions that way; prior to loving another, you must love yourself first. It appears to be basic arithmetic: if you have self-love, you will undoubtedly love someone similar to you, rather than the opposite. Tanya Horwitz, a PhD candidate in psychology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, has analysed over 130 personality traits, including political affiliation, substance use, and the age of first sexual encounter. According to the research, in a significant majority — specifically between 82 per cent and 89 per cent of those traits — “partners were often inclined to be alike.” Researchers claim there is minimal truth to the idea that opposites attract. A romantic study discovered that over 80 per cent of the traits examined in couples, ranging from political beliefs to substance use to the age they first had sex.
